The Het! – Soviet Space Poster which means “no” in Russian depicts a U.S shuttle circulating the planet earth. This poster was published during the US v’s Soviet space race which ran from 1957 until 1969. This was an era when The Soviet Union and The United States were competing to show who were the mightiest nation.
The Soviet Union were the first to put a man in Space with Yuri Gagarin, this poster represents this victory and how the U.S. had yet to achieve this mighty feat. The U.S followed this 8 years later by becoming the first to put a man on the moon on July 20th 1969. This achievement spelled the end of the historical period known as the space race.
The “Het!” poster is a reminder of this era and how the Soviets showed their dominance at the time.
