The “Keep these off the U.S.A – Buy more Liberty Bonds” poster was used during World War 1 to encourage the purchase of war bonds. They were known as liberty bonds during this period.
War bonds were sold to U.S. citizens to help fund the war effort. The were debt notices issued by the department of Treasury. The purchase of these bonds was seen as an act of patriotism. This was supported by the propaganda that was produced by the U.S. government.
The poster was designed by John Norton, some of his other work includes the “The hun-his mark- blot it out with liberty bonds poster“. This is part of our collection of War bonds posters from throughout the war years.
