The “Next of kin has been notified. Your work will save lives.” propaganda poster was used in the U.S.A during World War 2 to show the link between the work being done at home and lives being saved on the frontline.
The poster depicts a woman and her son with a letter in front of them, they are obviously distraught after reading the bad news about their husband father on the frontline. The colour and imagery is that of sadness and suffering, the poster attempts to link the good work being done at home with the fact that it saves lives and scenes like those depicted in the poster.
The poster was designed by Xavier Gonzalez who was originally from Almeria, Spain. He immigrated to the United States in 1925 where he became an artist. Posters which linked the work being done at home to success on the frontline can be found in the home front posters section.
