The “Order Coal Now – United States Fuel Administration” is a World War 1 U.S. poster. The poster depicts a horse drawn coal cart, with a man at the back shovelling coal.
This poster was sponsored by the United States Federal Fuel Administration and was designed by J.C. Leyendecker who was a well known illustrator at the time. His works appeared in The Saturday Evening Post on numerous occasions. Some of Leyendecker’s work includes the “Third liberty loan campaign Boy Scouts of America” poster.
The poster was designed to encourage those at home to order coal early so as not to be caught in the shortfall come winter time. The United States Federal Fuel Administration were in charge of setting prices and distributing coal during the war time.
