The “They need food – Plant more beans – Help those freed from axis rule” poster was used during World War 2 to encourage those at home to plant more food to support those on the frontline and particular those who were freed from Nazi rule.
The poster depicts a soldier feeding a downtrodden child, in the background we see burning and crumbling buildings from a war zone. The child is held up by the soldier as they eat and a large bowl of beans.
This is one of our collection of WW2 food posters. It was published by the Office for Emergency Management. The author of this poster is unknown. Other posters with a similar theme include the “Food is ammunition don’t waste it” poster and the “our food is fighting food” poster.
