The “Women! Help America’s Sons Win the War. Buy U.S. Government Bonds of the 2nd Liberty Loan of 1917” poster appealed directly to the women of the U.S.A to help their sons who were at were war to buy war bonds. More specifically it was aimed at mothers, as you can see from the image the main protagonist was an elderly woman whose son was more than likely at war. In the background is an image of death and destruction, both on land and at sea. The poster asks mothers to help their children by buying war bonds to help them survive and come home.
This poster plays on the anxiety mothers must have felt at time and tries to convince them that they can play a part in helping their childrens survival by buying war bonds.
The poster was created by R.H. Porteous who was an illustrator at time, this is his only known propaganda poster.
