The “You knock’em out – We’ll knock em down” poster was used to encourage those at home to work harder and produce more to help those on the front line.
The poster depicts a pilot in his cockpit smiling and with a thumb up, next to him is marked his number of kills. He looks at the camera in a thankful almost grateful way.
This poster was designed by John Falter who designed over 300 recruitment posters during World War 2. The government put a huge effort into recruiting soldiers during the conflict and into motivating those at home to continue to work hard and produce for those on the frontline.
One of Falters other posters include the “If you tell where he is going, he may never get there” poster which encouraged silence amongst those at home.
