The “Help him to help U.S.!Help the horse to save the soldier!” is a World War 1 poster from the U.S.A. It was used to promote the American Red Star Animal Relief.
Horses played a key role in the first world war with an estimated 243,135 horses and mules were used to transport ammunition and supplies as well as fight on the frontline. On returning many of these were injured or mentally scarred. The American Red Star Relief worked rehabilitating these animals.
This poster depicts Uncle Sam with a horse, showing the role the animal plays in the war effort and asking for those on the home front to make a donation to help them. This is part of our Uncle Sam collection of posters.
The poster was designed by James Montgomery Flagg who was famous for his Uncle Sam posters. It was published in 1917.
